CYCLING AND AXEMEN’S UNION
WEST COAST CENTRE. The following report will be submitted by the president (Mr. A. Tcpp) at the annual meeting of the West Coast. Centre of the N.Z. Cycling and Axemen’s Union, to be held at Greymouth on Saturday next. Club affiliations show an increase of two as compared with the 1944-45 season, 15 clubs now being affiliated to the centre. Season registrations numbered 117, an increase of 15 on the previous season. Day registrations last season totalled 71, as compared with 38 the previous year. Most clubs experienced fine weather for their meetings, and were well supported by the public. The standard of chopping and competitions was high. Nelson Creek and Ngahere did not operate last season, and Kumara registered, but did not receive sufficient entries to warrant their holding a meeting. The centre held its first meeting on December 28 and was rewarded with good support, both from the public and competitors. As a result, the meeting was a success and a profit was made. The thanks of the centre were due to the ladies’ committee, the Grey Cycling Club, and the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club, whose activities contributed largely to the success of the meeting.
