WAIUTA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] Mr and Mrs C. Court are on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr and' Mrs S. Ramsden have returned from a visit to Wellington. Messrs C. McTaggart, G. Halsey, G. Stephens and J. McMahon were week-end visitors to Christchurch. Mrs W. Prendergast has returned from a visit to Greymouth. Miss Ethel Reid and Mi T. Ramsden (Bunollie) have been visiting their grandmother, Mrs A. Stephens. Messrs H. Jones and N. Barber have left on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs I-I. Gardiner who has been on a visiting Mr and Mrs H. ’Hunt, has left on return to Auckland. Mrs G. Fattorini (Reefton), is spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs J. McMahon. 1./Bdr. S. S. M. Hayward, a member of the N.Z. Victory Parade Contingent, has returned to Waiuta. Mr Fred Matthews (Ikamatua) was a week-end visitor to the township. Mrs R. Morrissey was a visitor to Greymouth during the week. Mr P'at Kirwan has returned’ from a visit to Kumara. Constable G. M. Cleary, who .is spending leave in Wellington, is being relieved by Constable R. Hope, of Reef ton. On Sunday the Greymouth Railway “Loco” football team visited the township and played the local team, “Loco” winning 21-6, The game was more even than the score suggests. Railway leading 13-6 until about 10 minutes from time. Waiuta were without the services of a,number of their usual players and the home backs did not function as a combination. T. Smith playing at five-eighths, was the best- back and was ably sunported’ by J. Rodden and T. Robb. In the forwards, J. O’Flaherty. F. Neilson, and C. Downes were the best of an even pack. Railway combined better and played excellent football before the ball became greasy. K. Horrack and D. Dewar were outstanding is an even set of backs for Railway, while B. Dixon, Chapman, and W. Wilson were the most prominent forwards. Scorers for Railway were W. Hamilton, K. Horrack, D. Dewar and W. Wilson (2). For Waiuta Tiki Smith kicked' two penalaty goals. Mr W. Maher was a capable referee.
