REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, July 25. The erection of an up-to-date fii'e station at Reefton in the near future was discussed at the Reefton Fire Brigade’s annual meeting last evening. With the present activity in building, and the various projects which are likely to increase the population within a short time, the town would warrant a buildng to cope with the expansion. With the reorganisation of brigades the local Council would only be called on for part of the cost, The Brigade decided to advise the Council that the present, structure was becoming obsolete, and ask them to give consideration to a new building. The following officers were elected: Superintendent, C. Coxall, Dept. Supt., S. Newcombe, Ist. Foreman, C. Curtis, 2nd. Foreman, W. McCaffrey; 3rd Foreman, C. Newcombe; Secretary, V. L. Newcombe; Treasurer, C. Coxall; Auditor, J. Banks; Motorman, V. L. Newcombe. The Superintendent in his report stated fires and practices were well attended by the members. The Brigade were successful at the West Coast and New Zealand demonstrai ions through careful training of the team. M. Newcombe was elected Senior Vice-President at the West Coast conference. During Ihe year, the Brigade honoured the Ladies’ Committee, and three members were made presentations in recognition of their long connection with the Ladies’ Committee. The Brigade appointed' a deputation to ask the council for assistance in preparing the Strand Domain for the forthcoming West Coast demonstration. The Superintendent reported that a switch had been ordered for the fire alarm from Wellington. It was decided to request the council to - paint the meeting room. Last week 2936 tons of coal was produced in Inangahua, or 244 tons below the previous week when more railway wagons were available. On Monday trucks sufficient for the full output of 700 tons were available.
