The funerel of Mr. Richard Aldridge took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday. The services ai the chapel and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. E. O. Harding. Mr. and Mrs. E. Longley, Thompson Street, Greymouth, announce the engagement of their eldest daughter, Monica Elizabeth, to Russel Sidney Treweek, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Treweek, Nelson. Mr J. T. Watts, M.P. for Riccarton, has been selected as National Party candidate for the new St. Albans electorate. The other nominees’ were Messrs A. N. Stone and C. D. W. L. Sheppard. Mr H. T. Morton, M.P. for Waitemata, which electorate has disappeared as a result of the change in electoral boundaries, has been selected as the National Party candidate for the North Shore electorate. There was no other nomination for the Party selection. The funeral of Mr. Patrick Roche, of Cobden, took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, by the Rev. Father Leonard, and the service at the graveside was conducted by the Very Rev. Father J. Long Adm. Guests at the Albion Hotel include Mrs. D. Bain (Hokitika), Mr and Mrs E. J. Whitehouse (Auckland), Mr. and Mrs. Watkins (Dunedin). Mr. and Mrs. Pascoe (Rangiora), Mr. and Mrs. R. Williscroft (Reefton). Mr. and Mrs. E. Barnes, Messrs. D. F. Barnes, R. Watson, T. Hartley (Wellington), L. Asher, J. R. Kissell, C. L. Hardy (Christchurch), A. W. Gibbs (Takaka).

At St. John’s Hall on Monday evening a social and presentation was made to Miss K. Learmont, on tne occasion of her impending departure to the U.S.A. The Rev. T. G. Campbell presided. Mr. J. A. Shannon, on behalf of the Kirk Session, Board of Managers, and congregation, presented Miss Learmont with a set of fish knives and forks, a shell ashtry and a tortoise-shell bracelet. Mr. I-I. Ogilvie expressed regret at Miss Learmont’s coming departure, and on behalf of the St. John’s Fellowship Club, presented her with a silver sandwiche tray.
