Harc'staff halted a little over five hours and hit 16 fours. He and Gibb, in a solid fifth-wicket partnership of 182 runs in 110 minutes, put England -in a very sound position. The batting of Hardstaff and Gibb' was in direct contrast. Hardstaff was confident and scored freely in” spite of ‘ the accurate bowling of Amarrath and Hazare. Gibb was painstakingly slow. His 60 runs included only three fours. India at stumps had lost four good wickets for 162, Mankad, in spite of India’s leeway, batted very brjghtlv in making 63 in 85 minutes. He hit a sixer and seven fours. LATER. England won the test match by an Innings.
