KIWIS IN MELBOURNE
Review of Team’s Tour (Rec. 10.0) MELBOURNE, June 25. The menibers of the New Zealand Army Rugby Union team,- which won twenty-nine 'of the thirty-three matches it played in Britain and Europe,' passed 'through Melbourne today aboard the Moreton Bay. The ship is carrying 245 returning New Zealand servicemen and" war brides from .Britain. The Rugby team was picked by Geneal Freyberg from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Italy last year. After two months training, they were .matched against some of the best teams in Europe. They played matches in Scotland' in six inches of water, and in other places they played on. parade grounds. The Manager, Mr. A. H. Andrews, said thej r were the equal of any All Black team that has ever left New Zealand. Little Rugby football is played in Victoria, but Mr. J. A. Malcolm, New Zealand Government Representative in Melbourne, who is also Vice-President of the Victorian Rugby Union Association, who met the team, said that if the Victorians could see these boysj in action, the Rugby Union code would have a much greater following in Victoria. There will be no such opportunity as the ship is staying only one day.
