U.S. SOLDIERS’ DEPENDENTS
200 TO LEAVE N.Z. AUCKLAND, January 31. Two hundred dependants in New Zealand. of American servicemen have been advised by the United States Joint Purchasing Board that berths will be available for them on the Matson liner Monterey, which is expected at Auckland on February 8, and will sail the same day for San Francisco, via Sydney and Brisbane. About 600 Australian" dependants will fill the ship at Commonwealth ports. She is coming direct to Auckland, and has on board 800 passengers from America, including a large proportion of American servicemen coming t-.' rejoin their wives in Australia and New Zealand, and also Canadian wives of Dominion and Commonwealth servicemen. At Auckland 22’ passengers will disembark. About 500 dependants of American servicemen will remain in New Zealand after the Monterey sails. Prospects for their transportation to theUnited States are becoming a litt’e brighter, as it is possible that the Mariposa and Matsonia may be sailing to Australia and New Zealand.
