SOVIET PAPER’S ATTACK
ON CATHOLIC CHURCH (Rec. 11.50) MOSCOW, Jan. 28. The paper “Izvestia,” criticising the Vatican, described ihe appointment of an unusual number of Caidinals who are not Italians, as “ manoeuvre to extend reactionary influence over a wider area, notably in Anglo-Saxon and Latin-American countries.” Two of the new Cardinals, the Archbishop of Westminster, Most Rev. Dr Griffin, and Archbishop Spellman, of New York, are mentioned as "slanderers” of Russia.
