618 Priests Killed
RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION CONTINUES.
(Rec. 8.45.) VATICAN CITY, Jan. 5
The Vatican Press, in a bulletin, has quoted an unnamed Croatian, who has fled from Yugoslavia, as saying that six hundred and eighteen priests have been killed in Yugoslavia. The bulletin said: “The religious persecution continues as strongly as before.” ADMIRAL HORTHY ARRESTED AGAIN.TITO GOVERNMENT’S ACTION. " (Rec. 9.55.) LONDON, January 5. The “Daily Telegraph’s” 'Nuremberg correspondent stated: Admiral Horthy, former Regent of Hungary, who was recently released, has again been arrested at the special request of Yugoslavia. He will be removed to Belgrade for trial, as a war criminal, on charges preferred against him by Marshal Tito’s Government. BUDAPEST, January 4.
The Red Army newspaper “New Voice,” accuses the Hungarian Government of failing to carry out a purge in all spheres of public life. The paper states that with the time approaching for concluding a peace treaty with Hungary, reactionary elements in the State departments, the Army, and the Church are being allowed to grow even stronger.
Roumanian Regime
REJECTS OTHER PARTIES’ NOMINEES. BUCHAREST, January 4. Two Roumanian opposition parties, the National Peasants’ Party and the National Liberals, have agreed to nominate representatives to join the. Government as recommended by the Moscow Conference. The U.S. Ambassador’ to Russia (Mr. Averill Har(Sir Archibald Clark Kerr) have conriman) and the British Ambassador ferred with party leaders in the past few days. (Rec. 6.30.) LONDON, January 5. It is reported from Bucharest that the Grozea Cabinet have rejected those whom the National Peasants’ Party and the National Liberal Party nominated to the Government. The National Feasant Party nominated, their Vice-President, lon Mihalache. The National Liberal Party nominated their Secretary, Constantive Bratianu.
One report says: The Allied Commission who went to Bucharest to secure representatives in the Government of the Peasant and Liberal Parties may have to seek fresh instructions from their Governments. The members of the Commission are Admiral Sir Clark Kerr (British Admassador at Moscow), Mr. A. Harriman (U.S. Ambassador at Moscow), and M. Vyshinsky (Russian representative).
