PEACE IN CHINA
AGREEMENT MADE Government and Communists (Rec. 7.10). CHUNGKING, Jan. ‘5. It has officially been announced that the Chinese Government and the Communists agreed on procedures for ending hostilities and restoring communications in China. The agreement was reached after a 75 minutes’ conference, after which the parties agreed that the United States envoy, General Marshall’s presence in Chungking had strongly contributed to the success of the conference. General Chang Chun, Governor of Szechwan Province, and Chouenlai, will represent the Government and the Communists respectively, in arranging a “cease fire”, and will be working with General Marshal as a Committee of Three. Meanwhile an all-party nonpartisan unity conference is still scheduled to begin on January 10, when' an effort will be made to settle all outstanding differences between the Government and the Communists. It is announced that China has recognised the independence, of Outer Mongolia.
