MAN BURNED TO DEATH

NELSON WHARE FIRE FATALITY. P.A. NELSON, January 4. After being given a job by an Umukuri farmer last evening, George Lewis Barry, aged 50, a labourer, retired for the night to a one-roomed whare, which was to be his quarters. Three hours later the building was destroyed by fire and Barry was burned to death. At about 10.30 a youth named Young saw the whare on fire, He thought he heard a dog inside the room, which was burning fiercely and went away for an axe with the intention of attempting to rescue the animal. When he returned the fire was so fierce that he could not approach it. The burnt body of Barry was found later in the ashes.
