MISSING ON MT. COOK

TWO CLIMBERS. (Our Own Correspondent). WATAROA, January 4. Two climbers.are missing in the Mt. Cook area. A party to join in a search for them was organised in the Fox Glacier area, and to-day they left Weheka to go up tlv glacier. The two climbers are missing in the alps on the lower peak of Mt. Cook. They are A. C. Lees and H. R. Lerthenal, both of Christchurch. They are returned soldiers, both aged about 27 years, and members of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club. They left the Hermitage on December 23 for the Gardiner Hut, 14 miles up the Hooker’ Valley, and nothing Jias been heard of them since. The weather is bad. Ofie search party left the Hermitage this morning. They will return on Sunday night or Monday to the Hermitage. The missing climbers left a note at the Hooker Hut, saying that they intended to climb the lower peak of Mt. Cook. No word has been heard of them since.
