EXECUTION OF JOYCE

(Rec. 11.50.) LONDON, January 3. William Joyce was executed in the Wandsworth' Prison on Thursday morning. An official notice announcing his execution was posted on the gate of the prison at 9.8 a.m. The Press Association stated: William Joyce awaited his execution with the same complete composure ho maintained during the trial. Joyce remained alert and cheerful during his whole stay in the condemned cell alt Wadsworth Prison. He played chess with prison officers and concentrated without the least sign of strain. He saw. his wife almost daily. Joyce was resigned to his fate, and received visitors since last week. A notice announcing the execution this morning was posted on the main prison gates last night, remaining there until replaced by _a statutory notice stating the execution had been carried out. : BRITISH FREE CORPS CASES. LONDON, January 2. Five men, who it is alleged, conspred with John Amery to assist the enemy by joining the “British Free Corps’! in Germany, were charged at Bow Street. They are: Kenneth Edward Berry, 20, of Cornwall, Alfred Vivian Minchin, 28, of Surrey, Herbert George Rowlands, 37, of Westminster, Ronald David Barker, alias Vosiey, 32, seaman, no address, and Dennis John Leister, 23, of Camden Town.

Mr H. A. K. Morgan, prosecuting, said that all except Berry had been in a prisoners, of war camp for seamen in Germany. Berry, who was in another camp, was visited by Amery, who persuaded Berry to join the Free Corps. Berry later visited a seamen’s camp to recruit others. Minchin, who was previously per«= suaded to join the Corps by a man named Cooper, who had since been committed for trial, accompanied Berry on a recruiting trip. Mr Morgan said that Barker made a statement claiming to be <.n Australian' whose ship was sunk by the Admiral Scheer in February, 1941, and he was captured.
