BLAZING TRAIN
LOADED WITH AMMUNITION Sensation in England (Rec. 11.40) LONDON, Jan. 3 The “Daily Mail” stated: Inhabit tants of hamlets in Savernake for? est spent a sleepless night waiting for a mighty explosion from nearly forty fully loaded ammunition trucks standing at a siding at Cadley, with blazing waggons on either side. Minor explosions went on throughout the night shaking the hamlets in thd' neighbourhood, and' lighting the sky with vivid flashes. The “Daily Mail” adds: The major explosion depended on the wina. There was only twenty yards separating the blazing trucks from the remainder of the train, but as the train uncoupled when the first explosion occurred, the threatened trucks cannot be drawn away. All the troops and firemen have been withdrawn from the siding. The inhabitants of Cadley and’ the surrounidng hamlets are being evacuated. An area ot about nine square miles has been banned to traffic. The initial explosion is believed to have been caused by cartridges setting afire and detonating land mines.
