Noreen Cullen, of Sale, who had both legs severad below the knees by a steel cable suspended from an aeroplane on t.he beach in 1943, has been awarded £2,950 damages from the Commonwealth. SYDNEY POWER STRIKERS REFUSE PROPOSALS. (Rec. 11.0). CANBERRA, Sept. 18. The Prime Minister, Mr Chifley, told the Flouse of Representatives that the Commonwealth Government has not intervened, and has at present no intention of intervening in the Btmnerong power house dispute. A mass meeting of the Bunnerong strikers was held in Sydney. They decided by an overwhelming majority to reject the proposal by the Disputes Committee for immediate resumption of: work. The Disputes Committee proposed that, on a resumption by the men, negotiations should be opened for a fortyyhour week of five days, spread over seven days of the week, for all of the Sydney County Council sb ft workers. It also suggested that shift workers receive 2s extra per shift.
