DOCK EXPLOSION
’ IN BRITISH BATTLESHIP
Two workmen were killed and six injured by an explosion on Britain’s biggest battleship “Vanguard,”, being outfitted at John Brown’s shipyard, Clydebank. The cause is not yet known. It is reported that she was fairly extensively damaged. She was launched secretly by Princess Elizabeth, last November. (Rec. 7.50) LONDON, Sept. 17 The explosion on the Vanguard occurred in the ship’s main refrigerating department, well below the deck. The men who were working in the next compartment were thrown off their feet. Smoke billowed from the ship.
