GENERAL FREYBERG. P.A. WELLINGTON, September 17. Rt. Hon. P. Fraser has received the 1 * following telegram from General and Lady Freyberg in acknowledgement of his message of congratulations on the appointment of General Freyberg as Governor-General: “The warm welcome in your cable and your most generous and handsome tribute in Parliament has moved us both. We feel that all you have written and said about us in Parliament is as much a tribute to -the great force which I had the honour to lead during these difficult years. Now that complete victory has been won, much can and ought to be said about their magnificent achievements. No force rout have achieved what this force achieved except for valour, endurance and intelligence on the part of officers and men. and no division could have gone on fighting for five and a-half yiears but for the help' and great and never failing supnort we received from New Zealand. In dark days we were inspired by unfailing encouragement which was given us. No commander has been helned and supported as J. have been. May I say how untrained I feel for the work that lies ahead. 1 will do all that I can to serve my country in this new field. I will endeavour to follow in the footsteps ol my distinguished predecessor. Marshal of the R.A.F. Sir Cyril Newall. Again, mv most grateful thanks for your most kind and warm welcome to us both”* _
