TECHNICAL SCHOOL

BOARD OF MANAGERS MEET Mr J. B. Kent presided over last evening’s annual meeting of the Greymouth Technical High School Board of Managers. Also nresent were Mrs. G. Blair, Messrs D. S. Kennedy, F L. Turley, F. H. Denton, F. Bird, W, Braithwaite, W. McGilchrist, J'. H. North, G. Gillespie, J. J. Haddock, J. McNulty and the secretary (Mr W. Stewart). The chairman welcomed the new members to the board and moved a vote of appreciation to those members who had retired. Mr Haddock thought that Mrs Wilson should be appointed to the position of clerical assistant to the Principal until a permanent clerk was appointed. There was considerable discussion on the matter until the chairman pointed out that it had been decided at an earlier meeting of the board that Mrs Wilson was to. .fill the position till the end of the school year. Mrs Wilson said that she found the arrangement quite satisfactory. Messrs Denton and Turley were nominated for the position of chairman of the Finance Committee. Mr Denton was elected by 6 votes to 4. Letters were received from the Education Department concerning the changing of the plans for the caretaker’s cottage from a two to a three bedroom house. Mr Turley gave notice of motion to rescind an earlier decision of the board as to the location of the cottage in the school grounds. Mrs Blair said in the course ofl her report from the Visiting Committee, that the new gas range and floor coverings in the hostel looked very nice. She suggested that something should be done concerning the walls and floors of the boys’ dormitory. The report was adopted, and the Principal was empowered to make arrangements regarding the walls and floor of the boys’ dormitory. Messrs McNulty and Turley were appointed a Visiting Committee for the next month.

The Finance Committee reported that the school account had a credit balance of £6lO 16s lid. The payment of accounts totalling £699 7s lid (school £606 10s, hostel £92 17s lid) was recommended.
