TIMBER WORKERS

General Resumption CONFERENCE EXPEDITED. The sawmills of the West Coast practically all resumed production yesterday, after having been idle during the previous week on account of the workers’ stand for the introduction into the Westland award of a wet time clause. It earlier had been expected that the meeting to be held between representatives of the timber workers of the Dominion and the representatives of the N.Z. Sawmillers’ Federation for the purpose of finalising the question of the wet time clause would be held at Nelson at the end of the present week. It has now, however, been arranged to expedite the conference, and it is being therefore held at Wellington on Thursday, The timber workers are confident that there will be a satisfactory settlement, and are in any event assured of the support of other Labour organisations in the attainment of such a settlement.
