The highest prices for fat sheep for many years were recorded at I* nd week’s Addington stock market, ana Fat cattle also made comparable with the boom period after the last war. The store sheep section was again limited, and prices^ showed a substantial increase. The best wether hoggets made from 22s to 25s 9d and a nen, shorn as lambs, sold for 20s. The only ewe hoggets offered made 20s. Forty-four 4-tooth and 6-tooth wethers made 26s 6d, and others 20s 6d to 225. One hundred and twenty-seven Romney ewes in lamb to "Southdown rams made from 29s to 325, and 48 sound-mouth ewes in lamb to Southdowns 32s 6d. Seventy-eight two-tooth ewes in lamb to Border Leicester rams sold for 29s 6d, and a pen of Merino ewes in lamb to English Leicester rams realised 10s. The first of the season’s ewes with lambs at foot attracted keen bidding, i2 full-mouth ewes with 73 lambs selling at 15s lOd all counted. The. entrv of fat- hoggets was again small. Values were: Extra prime hoggets 43s to 48s 4d, prime hoggets 37s 7d to 40s Id, medium weight hoggets 26s 7d to 30s Id, light and unfinished 20s to 235. The yarding of fat sheep was barely 2000, and prices soared. The highest price, 79s 7d secured for wethers, 58s Id for two-tooth ewes and 54s Id for aged ewes, substantially exceeded the best obtained at the usual Addington market for a long while, and prices for all other grades soared to record levels. Most of the best sales of wethers exceeded the 60s mark and very few sold for less than 50s. Values were: Extra prime wethers to 79s 7d; prime wethers 69s 4d to 73s Id; prime medium weight wethers 48s 7d to 55s 7d; light wethers to 45d; extra prime young ewes to 58s Id; extra prime aged ewes to 54s Id; prime ewes 48s to 51s; medium ewes 35s to 14s; light ewes to 30s. The prices for fat cattle were similarly high, probably being exceeded not more than once in the last decade. There was a yarding of 437 head. Values were: Extra prime steers £2B to £35 12s 6d; prime steers £25 to £27 10s; prime medium weight steers £2O to £24; ordinary steers £l6 to £lB 10s; light steers to £l5 10s; extra prime heifers £lB 15s to £24 12s 6d; prime heifers £l6 5s to £18: medium heifers £l3 10s to £l5 10s, extra prime cows £l7 to £2l 17s 6d; prime cows-£l4 5s to £l6; medium cows £ll 10s to £l3 10s; light cows to £lO 10s. In the vealer section best vealers made from £7 18s 6d to £lO 18s 6d; others £5 18s 6d to £7 13s 6d; large calves. 58s to 80s; medium 40s to 565; small and rough calves 18s to 38s. The store cattle entry was of mixed character. A pen of six Hereford steers sold at £l2 18s 6d, and one of seven Red Poll steers at £l2 6s. Single entries of Black Poll steers, rising three years, and in forward condition made £l3 15s and Shorthorn crosses to £ll 10s. Pens of graziers’ cows in moderate condition sold from £5 10s to £6 13s 6d and others in low condition at £4 13s 6d. In the dairy cattle section values were: Best second and third calvers £l3 to £l7; average sorts £9 10s to £l2 10s; lower conditioned, aged and inferior cows £5 5s to £9; good heifers £ll to £l3 10s; medium £8 5s to £lO 10s; small and unattractive £5 10s to £7 15s.

Fat pig values were: Light porkers 51s 6d to 59s 6d; medium £3 2s 6d to £3 12s 6d; heavy £3 17s 6d to £4 9s 6d; choppers £8 18s 6d to £l7 18s 6d; light baconers £4 14s 6d to £4 19s 6d; medium £5 4s 6d to £5 14s 6d; heavy £5 17s 6d to £6 4s 6d; extra heavy £6 9s 6d to £7 3s 6d.
