BURMA FIGHTING
ENEMY MORE AGGRESSIVE. (Rec. 10.40.) ■ LONDON, July 19. An Allied South-east Asia Command communique says: On the lower Sittant River, Gurkha troops, who had occupied the Laya railway station, were shelled by the Japanese. Laya is twenty-six miles nortneast of Pegu, on a line from Pegu to Martaban. Our troops estabhsned several patrol bases in the area. Around Myitkyo, twenty-nine miles north-north-east of Pegu, Japanese forces have reacted vigorously to our attempts to probe their strongpoints in this sectoi'. " The enemy has not contested our occupation of. certain villages. This indicates a tendency to conserve his forces, and to play for time. o
