Substantial decreases in the fat stock entries and a marked advance in prices for both fa: sheep and cattle were features of (yesterday’s stock sale at Addington. Fat pigs also showed an increase.
The highest figure for lambs in the store sheep section was 19s and medium and cull lots sold at from 13s to 16s 6d. A pen of halfbred wethers made 27s 3a land other pens of similar sheep made from 26s 3d to 26s 9d. The best of the hill wethers made from 23s 3d to 26s and medium from 18s 9d to 21s sd. A pen of 234 six and eight tooth Romney; ewes in lamb to English Leicester and Southdown rams, made 33s and 62 four and five-year halfbreds, in lamb to Southdown rams, sold for 29s 6d, while a pen of three-quarterbreds made 28s 3d. A pen ol 50 sound-mouth ewes in lamb to Southdown rams sold for 265. Medium ewes ranged up to 235, and inferior from 16s 6d to 19s 6d. Values in the fat lamb section were: Heavy lambs to 47s Id, prime 335. to 39s Id, medium 22s to 245, light to 18s. In the fat sheep section, values were: Extra prime wethers, to 52s Id. Prime wethers, 45s 7d to 50s 7d. Prime medium-weight wethers, 34s 4d to 395. Light wethers, to 32s 7d. Extra prime young ewes, to 38s 7d. Prime aged ewes, 33s 7d to 37s 4d. Medium ewes, 22s 7d to 26s 4d. Light ewes to 19s.
At the outset of the fat cattle, sale prices jumped by 50s a head, but late arrivals decreased the increase to 30s. Values were: Extra prime steers to £24 7s 6d. Prime steers, £l7 10s t.o £l9 15s. Prime medium-weight steers, £l5 10s to £l7. Ordinary steers, £ll to £l3. Extra prime heifers, to £l6. Prime heifers. £l2 to £l5. Medium heifers, £8 10s to £lO 15s. Extra prime cows, to £l3 7s 6d. Prime cows, £8 15s to £lO 15s. Store cattle prices ranged from £4 16s for aged, inferior and unattractive sorts to £9 16s for young Hereford cows in calf to Hereford bulls. Top price of the sale was £22 10s for a Fresian cross heifer, and £2l 10s was obtained for an Ayrshire cross third calver. Best heifers made from £l3 to £18; medium to good, £lO to £l2 10s; others, £8 to £9 10s: best third and fourth calvers, £l4 to £l7 10s; good average cows, £lO. to'£l3 10s; others, ’ including aged, inferior, and unattractive sorts, £5 10s to £9. A sound sale was recorded and a total clearance made of vealers. Values were:—Large vealers, £6 13s 6d to £9 6s; others £4'lBs 6d to £6 Ils. Best suckers, £5 18s 6d to £6 18s 6d; medium, £4 6s to £5 16s. Large calves, 56s to 78s; medium, 32s to 545; small and bobby, 8s to 30s. Porker values were:—Light porkers, 53s 6d to 57s 6d; medium, £3 Is 6d to £3 9s 6d; heavy, £3 12s 6d to £4 5s 6d. Choppers, £8 11s to £l5. Light baconers, £4 9s 6d to £4 17s 6d; medium, £5 4s 6d to £5 9s 6d; heavy £5 14s 6d to £6 2s 6d; extra heavy, £6 4s 6d to £6 19s 6d. Average price per lb. 9d to 95d. In the store pig section, values were:—Slips, 30s to 355. Small stores, 36s to 40s; medium, 40s to 455.
