HARIHARI NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent! Hon. C. F. Skinner, Mrs. Skinner and party paid a visit to South Westland’on Saturday and Sunday. The Minister received a Harihari deputation at the local hotel, consisting of settlers of the district, for whom the spokesmen were Messrs George Rowley (County Chairman), W. Searle, Junr. (President of the West Coast Farmers’ Union). The chief need of the district, it was pointed out to the Minister, was that of means to avert the erosion of farm lands through the flooding of rivers. It was stated also that areas suitable for closer settlement were in need of protection from erosion. Mrs. C. Black of Evans Creek, has been advised by the Hon. James O'Brien, that her son, Dvr. Ron Black, has been discharged from a German prison camp. Telegrams were also received from the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), and The Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) to the . same effect. . Mrs. R. McMillan of Christchurch, is at present on a visit to her sons here. , , Mr. and Mrs. Perry and daughter of Blenheim, have arrived and taken up their residence at Evans Creek. Mr. and Mrs. J. Peterson are on a visit to Christchurch.' Mr. W. Searle, Junr, who has been on a visit to the North Island, has returned. Mr. E. Anderson paid a visit to Kokatahi for the week-end. Mr. G. Wright of Peterson’s Flat, has returned after paying a visit to Greymouth. Mr. and Mrs. E. Chisnail were visitors to Hokitika last week. The half-yearly fat and store cattle sale will be held at the Waitangi (Wataroa) yards on Thursday next.
