GERMAN BRIDE
R.A.F. PRISONER’S ROMANCE. (Rec. 5.5). LONDON, March 15. An escaped British war prisoner arrived at a Middle East port, from Odessa; with a German bride. He is Flight-Sergeant Donald Meese, of Sheffield. Mrs Meese is a 19-year-old brunette, who helped Meese to escape from Germany. Meese, who was captured after bailing out of a Lancaster last June, escaped from a prison camp; when he heard Russians were rapidly advancing. While he was hiding in a barn in Silesia, the brunette passed. He attracted her attention, and told her he had escaped, and was hungry. She took him to her house, where he learned that the girl and her mother han helped many people to escape from the Germans. They were anti-Nazis, and were suspects. Meese, in gratitude, offered to take the girl to Britain, but he found that the girl could not go unless she Avas married. A Methodist minister married the pair at Cracow. Meese told an interviewer: “We love each other, and intend to stay married.”
