Opera House Now showing: “Wells Fargo,” starring Joel McCrea and Frances Dee. “WELLS FARGO” The magic of the motion picture camera brings back to life some of the most stirring and colourful days in history in Paramount’s “Wells Fargo,” a romance with Joel McCrea and Frances Dee, now showing at the Opera House. The story is concerned in the main with the necessity which arose in the west for dependable transportation service across the continent to California, to carry the mails and news to the scattered wildcat towns on the frontier and to return to East with gold and silver. How this need was filled by the enterprising firm of Wells Fargo and Company forms the background of the picture. Laid against this background, which covers the period of 1844 to 1870 is the beautiful romance of Joel McCrea, a young man with far-sighted vision who is one of the trail breakers, and his wife, Frances Dee, who loves him but fails to understand his dreams. The fortunes of this pair are traced from the time when are married, at the outset of the picture, until # they are reconciled after the war between the States had come between them. Others in the brilliant cast are Bob Burns, Lloyd Nolan, Henry O’Neill. Porter Hall, Robert Cummings, Ralph Morgan, Mary Nash, and John Mack Brown. (
Regent Theatre
Now Showing: “Follow The Boys” starring George Raft and Vera Zorina.
“Follow The Boys,” Universal’s all-star film which commences at the Regent Theatre to-day, is something more than a pictorial parade of Hollywood’s personalities; it’s sheer entertainment content is as good as Hollywood has turned out in this war. It provides a human story as well, about which to weave the history of the show world from tne demise of vaudeville to the present day. Further strengthening the fabric of the entertainment-laden film is the appealing romantic theme involving George Raft and Vera Zorina. The film faithfully records the contributions of show people to morale at home and abroad, and is traditionally plain in its treatment. Musically, it is exceptionally varied and melodic running the full scale of personal tastes from boogiewoogie to the p’anistic genius of Rubenstein. Tn addition to the musical side, some of America’s leading magicians, and comedians and dancers are to be geen.
