Mr F. W. Archer presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua County' Council, there being also present Crs Bell, Coghlan, Coxall, Williams, Clayton, McGregor and Blackadder. It was decided on the motion of Crs Clayton and Topp to reply to the Public Works Department that the Council could not meet the cost of Coal Creek bridge at £4OOO on a £ for £ basis. Several letters were read from the Mines Department re quarries, and mine rentals and privileges. The chairman of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council wrote re Buber catchment area. Crs Bell and Clayton were empowered to interview Cronadun settlers on the matter. F. E. Absalom wrote re an open drain alongside his property, Bridge Street; and Mrs C. Absalom re iblafckberries on her frontage, Bridge Street; the matters being referred to the engineer. Brown Creek Sawmilling Co. (Green and Weir) wrote re Alexander road, and applicants are to be advised that Council has asked a grant for the work. It was decided to assist Blackwater School Committee in forming a swimming pool. It was decided to charge Ikamatua Sawmill Co. £1 a year for a dwelling site. It was decided to employ a man for a day weekly on the reservoir race. The chairman reported attending a regional planning conference at Greymouth and that he had suggested joining the Buller area. Cr Topp moved‘and Cr Coghlan seconded, that Inangahua County work with Buller in the formation of a regional area under the scheme for national de-velopment.—-Carried. The Minister of Agriculture advised that representations by the Council re the selling of nassella infested hay would be looked into. Mrs N. Wallace made an offer of a sum in payment of mining rents, which was accepted, applicant to be advised that Council will not ‘.gree to further reductions. Mrs J. Wearne, .Black’s Point, wrote re erosion caused by Murray Creek to her land, and is to be advised that Council has no jurisdiction in the matter. _ Grey County Council wrote re. repairs to Rough River bridge. Cr. Williams moved that the Counci place a lorry and driver permanently at Ikamatua. —Carried. After a discussion on house accommodation for the County Clerk, it was resolved that the Council make application for a loan of £2OOO to erect a dwelling for the County Clerk and to build suitable housing - for the County plant. It was resolved that payment be made on account of work done on Betts’ bridge. The engineer reported that, surface patching had been done in Reefton streets.
