SYDNEY, Feb. 16. Nearly 700 firemen throughout New South Wales, who had been on strike, have resumed work. This follows an agreement between the Board of Commissioners and the Fire Brigades’ Association at a compulsory conference before the President of the State Industrial Commission (Mr Justice Taylor). Under the terms of resumption lire brigade officers are to carry out all clerical' duties, to which the firemen objected. The issue of a 73J-hour week is to be investigated by a committee of experts. The suspended firemen are to be reinstated. No serious fires occurred in the State during the period of the strike, 1 hough Sydney metropolitan area was without adequate fire protection from Sunday and the rest of New South Wales from Monday. MELBOURNE, FeJ>. 15. In spite of losses, the lighting tonnage of the Australian Navy is more than 600 per cent, greater than at the outbreak of war, and its personnel has increased by more than 600 per cent. Recruiting has been resumed.
