GREY'S CELEBRATIONS As in past years, the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations Committee, will this year cater as fully for patrons with a grand annual ball, and Irish national concert and finally a gala sports programme at Victoria ' Park. In fact, the Committee is endeavouring to beat its last year’s splendid achievements, and is offering valuable prizes and slakes for the sports meeting which will be held on Saturday, March 17, preceded by the usual procession from the Hibernian Hall. The 14 inch underhand chop (birch logs) is worth £2O to the winner, who will also receive an axe donated by John Burns Ltd. There is also a 12 inch underhand chop, worth £8 to the winner. Cyclists are well catered for, the St. Patrick’s wheel race being worth £lO to the winner, while two other events carry valuable prize money. The ball, one of the outstanding social events of the year, will be held at Schaef’s Hall on Tuesday, March 13, and the Irish National concert, introducing many new features, will be staged at the Greymouth Town Hall, on Thursday, March 13.
