The Services match was drawn todav, with honours in favour of the Northerners. South Island failed narrowly to reach the score of their opponents, and were dismissed for 298. Conditions were ideal when play commenced, but. cold wind, and light rain in th c afternoon made them unpleasant. A feature, of the Southerners’ .innings was a grand third wicket partnership between Dryden and J'ames, which realised 125 runs. Dryden was run out for 88, while James batted cautiously for 87. Fielding and bowling by the Central Services wore good. Donaldson put up a splendid bowling performance, and deserved better figures.
