[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, November 25. Mr J. W. Archer presided at the Inangahua County Council meeting, also present being Cr?. Bell, Coghlan, Coxall, McGregor, Blackadder, Topp, Clayton, Williams. The Minister of Works advised that the legalising of the road to Creighton Bridge at Maruia was receiving attention ;also that Fascoe’s Road and bridge were being reported on. The Fublic Works Department advised a report was being prepared on the best method of eliminating the road subsidence on the Black’s Point-Reefton Road. Cr. McGregor moved, and the chairman seconded, that the Department’s attention be drawn to the dangerous state of the road, and pointing out the urgency of repair work immediately. The Railway Department advised it considered the flooding of Dick’s Farm was not due to the Department’s work carried out in the Inangahua River. It was resolved that Mr Dick be forwarded a copy of the letter. The Royal Coal Syndicate wrote asking attention to road approach at Rainey Creek. The Public Works Department is to be requested to repair it. Messrs F. G. Lynch and F. M. Sara asked for attention, to a footpath leading to the Strand Domain. Cr. Coxall moved, and the chairman seconded, that the work be carried out when funds and labour are available. Reefton School Committee wrote re use of the swimming baths. C. Coxa'll moved and Cr. Coghlan seconded, the Engineer’s recommendation for repairing be gone on with, and that the applicants, be .advised of the steps taken. Carried, •gr. McGregor moved, and or. Wilthat £3O be/ donated to the Libfa^,-and-.that.. repairs asked for be attended to. Carried. Reefton Women’s Institute wrote re the Rest Room, and Cr. McGregor moved, and Cr. Blackadder seconded, that the Institute be asked' to formulate a plan of improvements at the Rest Room. Carrier. Tenders for the purchase of a fire-proof safe were received from Father Nolan (£l5), and Mr W. Bailey (£5 ss), the former tender being accepted. In view of the cost of renewal of Coal Creek bridge, it was decided to make application for a free grant to carry out the work. It was decided that the balance of the grant (£160) .for road work carried out by the Royal Coal Syndicate be paid to the company. It, was decided that attention be given the road on the west bank of the Maruia River and to Harris’ Road, Maruia. Cr. Coxall, for Reefton Fire Brigade, made application for use' of King George V Jubilee Park for a children’s sports meeting in December, which was granted. Cr. Coxall moved, and Cr. Clayton seconded, that the Railways Department be asked to make a snecial allocation of rail-car seats on the Westport-Christchurch rail-car. Carried. Mr J. B. Auld presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board at Reefton, all members beinp present. The Secretary of the Treasury advised .receipt of details of the proposed new hospital at Reefton and that the Board’s application for nermission to raise a loan for the new building would be considered at the next meeting of the Loans Board. The Minister of Social Security acknowledged receipt of the Board’s resolution re the payments to men who are in receipt of miners’ phthises benefits and are inmates of hospitals. Mr Archer moved that the chairman and secretary submit to the Department all local cases in this respect which are deserving of special consideration. A reciprocal agreement with Wanganui Hospital Board was decided on. Dr. Wicken (Medical Superintendent) reported: Admitted 30; discharged 27; in-patients 24; births 8; X-rays 7; death 1; attendances on out-patient? 53. Matron Whisker reported Nurse Heslop was on annual leave, and Nurse Blackadder on sick leave. The chairman reported that Mrs T. C. Dellaca had raised the sum of £7 7s 9d for the Hospital by the sale of her work. The Board decided that Mrs Dellaca be accorded a vote of thanks for her effort.
