[Our Own Correspondent], WESTFORT, November 25. The Te Ardha sailed on, Saturday I for Wellington with a full cargo of timber. The Kartigi arrived from Auckland and commenced loading coal for Auckland yesterday. The Karepo has arrived from Wellington and is to load coal for Auckland. Mr G. Fraser, of the Fublic Works Department, is joining the staff of Gibb? - Motors, Ltd. He was the guest | of fellow workmen at a function on j Friday evening, when the Engineer, Mr A. A. Wilkinson, on behalf of the gathering, made a presentation and paid tribute to the guest’s service during the years he had been associated with the Department. The second and third shoots in the Westport Miniature Rifle Club’s sixth competition were fired recently, the shooting being of a high standard. Best scores were returned by L. Hutchison, 68, 69; J. R. Keoghan, 69, 67;’ D. J'. Cunningham, 67, 64; N. Palmer, 65, 66; G. Lineham, 60, 69; Mrs K. Smith, 65, 63; A. Williams, 63, 65; P. Playsted, 63, 60; Miss Robertson, 56, 61. Mr G. Blair (chairman), and Mr D. Broad (secretary), of the Buller Hospital Comforts Committee, have been appointed to discuss with the Buller Hospital Board at its next meeting the reconditioning of the nurses’ tennis court, at the hospital. The Committee is prepared to subscribe 50 per cent, of the cost of repairing the court. Other matters to be discussed with the Board are: Improved bathing facilities (men’? ward). Suitable flood lighting of wards for the convenience of the night nursing staff. The building of an annexe at Kawatiri Maternity Hospital, which, if constructed, would be finished by the Comforts Committee. The secretary reported that since the inception of the Committee the total cost of amenities e?tablished at the hospital amounted to £403 3s 9d, leaving a cash balance of £122 6s yet to be expended.
