3rd. DIVISION MEN

RIGHT OF APPEAL. 1 : ' A . WELLINGTON, November 25. Men released to essential industry from the 3rd. Division, on remobolis, ation, were given the right of appeal to an aimed forces appeal court on the grounds of both personal hardship and public interest, while a similar right was extended to current employers of those men, said the Minister of National Service (the Hon. A. McLagan) in a statement toThe Minister referred to his statement of a few days ago, in which he said that armed forces anneal courts had been instructed to begin a rigorous review, of appeals of all Grade I men under 36 years of age held in industry, wth particular reference to Grade i single men and Grade I men who were married without children. In that connection it had already been announced that men who had had three or more years’ service overseas in the Pacific, or any other overseas area would not be remobilised with those drafts. The Minister went on to say that men from the 3rd. Division were released to industry on the definite understanding that they were to, be remobilised for further service .outside New Zealand when required. Although some of those men might have received remobilisation orders earlier than they anticipated, they had the right of appeal against such calling up, and they might be assured that until such time as any appeals lodged had been determined they’ would not be required to report to camp. In dealing with applications in respect of individuals employed in the same undertaking on similar work, it might be accepted that, all other circumstances being equal the man who had been withheld from service would be released by appeal courts earlier than the man who had ha a Pacific service.
