WESTPORT NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent]. WESTPORT, November 24. Miso E. Tottenham has returned from holidays spent at Shannon. Mr W. Best, Kongahu, is visiting Westport. Mr J. H. Harker has been admitted to the Buller District Hospital as a result of injuries l sustained when involved in a bicycle accident. The Nelson Education Board, at its recent meeting, passed a resolution supporting the Wellington Education Board’s protest against the manpowering of teachers and Training .College students during the Christmas vacation.
The first shoot in the sixth competition fired by members of the Westport Miniature Rifle Club resulted in a tie between L. Hutchison and J. R. Keoghan for first place, and in the shoot-off Hutchison won. The junior division was headed by N. Palmer, and Mrs K. Smith won the ladies’ section. The final shoot of the fifth competition was also fired in conjunction ' with the sixth competition and J. R. Keoghan and L. Hutchison tied again with 139 out of the possible 140 off the rifle. Of the 52 candidates in the Nelson Education Board’s. l district, who applied for admission to Teachers’ Training College next year, 21 of them already possess the required academic qualifications and have passed the medical examination, and will automatically be recommended. The district’s quota for the year is. l 26, and the Board’s selection committee has been faced with a difficult task in making the final selection for the remaining five vacancies.
