U.S. ’PHONE STRIKE ENDS
WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. The Union officials called off the long-distance telephone operators’ strike to-night. This was shortly after the War Labour Board had placed the matter before White House. A War Labour .Board member, Mr Nathan Feinsinger, said that leaders of the Ohio and Washington strikers came to his office and volunteered to send the operators back to work. They added that they had been impressed by the fact that the Government meant business, and that a seizure of telephone exchanges by the Government was imminent. There were sympathy strikers in Detroit and other cities. They were ordered to return to work. The leaders’ action complies with the War Labour Board order, and paves the way for a negotiated settlement of the original dispute.
