four Own Correspondent]. St. John Ambulance class, held a social and dance in the Recliabite Hall on Friday evening. There was a large attendance. Mr. A. Dowgray of Granity, the instructor, presented the following members with certificates: Mr. J, Taylor, Medallian, Mr Doris Cooper, re-examination; Mrs. Lilian Olsen, re-examination; Miss Phyllis Orman, Ist. year; and Miss Jacqueline Baines, Ist. year. A dainty supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Music was supplied by Mrs. J. Boswell and Mr. P. Plummer was M.C. Mr. J. Taylor presented Mr. Dowgray with a gift as a token for his services. The Millerton mine is working ten days fortnightly. . Mr. .and Mrs. R. Jack are visiting Christchurch. Mrs. W. Milligan is spending a holiday in the North Island. Mr. J. Tiplady has returned after spending a holiday in the Nortn Island. , ri Mr. R. Mclntyre has returned after being a patient in the Westport Hospital. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre left last week-end for Wellington. Mrs. M. Blair, with her children, has left Millerton to visit, her sister in Palmerston North. Mr. Evans, Headmaster of the Millerton School, is at present at Christchurch on sick leave and Mrs. Newburn is relieving him. Mr. W. Watson, President of the Euller Trades Council, attended a meeting in Westport on Saturday, also Mr. F. Ireland, Stockton Union’s delegate. The Millerton Miners’ Union monthly meeting, held recently was presided over by Mr. W. Watson, President. Mr. A. Mclntyre was elected the Union nominee for the District. National Council. Mr. Watson gave a report on the recent conference held in Wellington on open-cast coal mining. The report was received. It was deeded to grant. £5 towards the Hector Labour Party’s children’s sports day. The question of the Labour Daily paper was left in abeyance till .after the Federation of Labour Annual Conference. It was decided to hold the annual meeting at an early date. Mr. T. Murray returned recently after being a patient in the Westport. Hospital for some months. Mr. J. 'Cook of Wellington, was a recent visitor looking up old friends, also Mr. T. Porter of Timaru. Mrs. G. Sheafer and child of Blackball, were recent visitors.
L.A.C. W. Strang and Mrs. Strang, of Christchurch, recently paid a visit to Millerton. 1 Mrs. L. Mason and children of Christchurch, recently spent a holiday With relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. T. Pollock recently visited Greymouth, also Mr. and Mrs. R. McGaviii. Mrs. W. Green and child recently returned to Wellington after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maddison. Mr. M. Cunniffe returned last week after visiting Wellington. Mrs. F. Ireland has been visiting Nelson. The Bowling Club has elected the following officers: Patron. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre; President, Mr. F.
