ON ITALIAN FRONT. RAIN RETARDS ADVANCE. (Rec. 1.10.)* LONDON,’October 11. Bad weather continued all along the Italian front, but both Fifth and Eighth Armies made limited gains, reports to-day’s Allied communique. British Fifth Army troops in the central sector, after several days of heavy fighting, captured Monte Cace, a height dominating the road running into the Po Valley from Palazzuolo. American Fifth Army forces, on their left, progressed, despite strong resistance, in high.ground west of Imola Road. Anglo-Indian troops in the Eighth Army sector improved their positions in the Monte Farneto area. SARANDA CAPTURED. (Rec. 1.10.) LONDON., October 11. A Balkans communique states we captured Saranda, taking prisoner about five hundred. Mopping up operations continue in the area of Gjashde, Albania. Active patrolling continues in Greece.

Aid for Italy

U.S.A. TO ALLOW CREDITS (Rec. 6.55) WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 President Roosevelt has approved of a plan for enabling the Italian. Government to obtain a certain amount of United States dollars for use as foreign exchange so as to pay for essential civilian supplies that are purchased in the United States. The President stated that the United States is making available to the Italian Government dollars equivalent to tne Italian lire already issued, and hereafter to be paid, to the United States troops in Italy. It is also allowing dollars as the proceeds or remittances that are made by individuals in the United States to their friends and relatives in - Italy. Mr. Roosevelt said this step had been taken after consultation with Britain which will continue to send supplies to Italy under different financial arrangements. Meanwhile the U.S. War Department has announced that clothing, vitamins and medicine are being Shipped to Italy in U.S. Army vessels as this allows.
