YOUNG MAN CHARGED
WITH SHOOTING AT DETECTIVE. P.A. WELLINGTON, October 11. Henry Kenny Thomas Carr, a labourer, aged 19, pleaded not guilty ito a charge that, with intent to do Igrevious bodily harm to Detective W. 'C. Harper, he discharged a loaded firearm at him. He was committed to the Supreme Court. The police evidence was that, as the result of a message to a police station, that the accused intended to commit suicide, constables visited his house. They found him with a .22 I rifle. Following an offer of help, he pointed the rifle at Constable W. R. 1 Wrigley. The constables went out, I and waited for- a party of police. ■Constable Wrigley said that, after the arrival of the police party, he heard ■ a rifle fired, and he obtained a .303 rifle and went up a hill behind the accused’s home. He heard the .22 rifle go off three times, and he saw the accused point the rifle at Harper, who was about 50 yards away. The constable added: “Acting on instructions I had received, I aimed my rifle at the lower part of his body, and fired. He fell.” The episode 'was descrioed in detail by. others.
