rour Own Correspondent!. WESTPORT, Sept. 11. i Sergeant-Pilot G. Hickford is spendino' furlough wi'ih his parents, after service in the Pacific Area.. Borough Council rates paid up to noon Saturday amounted to £5,239, or 28 49 per cent of the toted amount. On Saturday, investments made in the Buller district in the Victory Loan amounted to £1032 Bs, bringing •he total to £25,062. Nurses from i the Buller Hospital, on Saturday, W er e out selling bonds and £169 was raised by their efforts. At a few minutes before 8 q clock, last evening, electric power failed in Westport, and for 25 minutes there was a total black-out. During this period a' thunder storm, accompanied bv lightning and heavy rain, was experienced. The death occurred at the O’Conor Home, yesterday morning, 'of Mrs. Annie Ryan, aged 86 years, a native of County Clare, Ireland. Deceased came to New Zealand 70 years ago, and had resided in the Buller District for that period. She is survived by two sons and four daughters.
