Private Rex Wilsoncroft, of Westport, has been wounded while serving with the Second N.Z.E.F. overseas.

Mr. J. Carmichael and Mr. J. Thomson, Railway Department Signal Inspectors, who have been visiting Greymouth, have returned to Christchurch.

Mr. Frank W. Miller, secretary of the Public Service Association, suffered a stroke while attending a meeting of the Association in Wellington on Thursday night and had to be taken to hospital, states a Press Association message. Mr. Miller formerly held a repsonsible position with the Education Department, from which he resigned to take up secretarial duties with the Association.

The death of Sir Henry J. Wood, noted English conductor, is announced in a cable message from London. He was aged 75. He was conductor of the Promenade Concerts since 1895, the Queen’s Hall Symphony Concerts, and of the Norwich, Sheffield, Birmingham and Westmoreland Musical Festivals. He celebrated his musical jubilee in 1938, and with the proceeds endowed nine beds in London hospitals.

The death occurred yesterday at his home, Maurice Street, Lincoln, Canterbury, of Mr. William James Robinson, a former resident of Blackball. He was aged 53. Mr. Robinson was the eldest son of the late Mr. James Robinson, of Reefton, and was born At Brunnerton. During . his residence in the Grey District he worked as a’ miner; but he had been, in ill-health for some years. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Harriet Robinson, two daughters and three sons.

Registrations accepted at Friday’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board included: —-Misses A. S. McKane (Aratika), E. Armstrong (Grev Main), J. C. Douglas (Ru Ru), Messrs G. Walker (Barrytown), H. G. Brown (Camerons). L. J. Thwaites (Kumara), and M. Cowen (Ross). The following .appointments were confirmed: Miss A. S. McKane and Miss E. G. Hayes (Dobson), Miss J.-*E. Baxter (Jackson’s), Mrs. E. E. Stevenson (Kanieri), Mr. H. G. Brown (Papanui).

The death occurred at Greymouth on Saturday morning of Mr. Henry August Wilson, aged 66. He had been in ill-health for about a year. Mr. Wilson was born on Banks Peninsula, and before coming to live in Greymouth when he retired about a year ago, he had resided in- Kokiri for 45 years, working for 40 years of that time a s a tramlayer for a sawmilling company. He was a member of the M.U.1.0.0.F. Lodge, Pidgeon Bay, for 50 years. He leaves his wife, four sons, Henry (Blenheim), Louis (Rutherglen), Gordon (Faroa), and Herman (Haupiri), and three daughters, Mesdames E. Ord (Stillwater), T. Jacobs (Kokiri), and J. Parkinson (Greymouth); also seven brothers, John (Greymouth), Herbert (Kokiri), Leonard (Christchurch), and William, Norman, Louis, and Charles (Banks Peninsula), and two sisters, Mesdames T. Thomas (Banks Peninsula) and T. Pike (Christchurch), 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at Karoro Cemetery and was largely attended. Rev. T. G. Campbell conducted the services at the house and at the graveside. ■ J .lalii
