GREY POWER BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. Mr. W. H. Parfitt presided over last evening’s monthly meeting of tne Grey Electric Power Board. Also present were Messrs W. Clayton, P. Blanchfield, W. McGilchrist, L. N. Downes, J. Mulcare, J. B. Kent, A. L. McKay and J. Ryan, also the Secretary' (Mr. W. S. McClymont) and tne Engineer (Mr. Sinclair Trotter;. It was decided to make a donation of £5 5s to the Greymouth Suo-Cen-tre of the St. John Ambulance. The Electric Power Boards’ and Supply Authorities’ Association wrote ashing whether the Board favoured the holding of a full conference or a joint meeting of executive committees.
The Secretary’s action in consulting Board members and advising that tne Board favoured the latter, was approved. The Secretary stated that rhe meeting would be held on August 23 and 24. The Westland District Progress League wrote thanking the -Boaru tor the resolution, favouring a deep-sea harbour, passed at the July meeting, and asking that a copy of it be sent to the Prime Minister.—The letter was received. The ;E,ngineer recommended that K. Coll be released to take up a position in Nelson and that a replacement be engaged; that the Board’s Ford truck which was. now worn out be replaced by a new truck; and that the aoard s Fordson tractor be replaced when a new tractor was available f°r purchase.—The recommendations were adopted. The finance committee reported that accounts amounting to £9,563 14s 3d (paid £8,681 7s 2d, unpaid £BB2 7s Id) had been passed tor payment. The report was adopted. The monthly report of the secretary (Mr W. S. McClymont) stated: "Partly due to the maturing of a fixed deposit of £9,000, £7,000 of which was re-invested forthwith, the Power Fund account balance at August 4, stood at £12,425 8s lid. Cash receipts since 1 reported to the July 21 meeting total £11,200 6s 3d, excluding tne fixed deposit mentioned above. Tne amount advanced to consumers as financial assistance towards the purchase of ranges now stands at £12,421 4s 9d, of which £1.962 6s 2d is still owing to the Board. The meter-reaa-ings for July, 1944, dealt with the A and C groups (town and part of tne country) and recorded sales of current valued at £ll,BBO 3s lOd). Large power accounts are all in order. The report of the engineer (Mr. Sinclair Trotter) for the period Juiy 16 to August 8 stated: The lines stair has been engaged on general maintenance and repairs to overhead lines ot the low tension system in various districts, including maintenance of consumers" services. The very old small transformer sub-station at Marsden has been re-built and the equipment re-arranged to give better service. Air break switches on the 11,000 volt lines at various points have been overhauled and a small amount of maintenance on outdoor transformers has been carried out. The transformer bank m the ■ main sub-station at Cobden has been changed to larger capacity, as it has been found this winter that tne existing units were becoming seriously overloaded. Work is proceeding at the new sub-station on the Town Belt when men are available. Since tne last meeting seven new applications have been received and permits issued. Three new consumers have been connected. Applications now total 5,294 and consumers 5,298. The load for the month is as follows! —Light, 2.400 k.w.; heat, 18.000 k.w.; water heat, 6.500 k.w.; power, 10.75 horse power; cooking 29.450 k.w. Total load for month, 67.100 k.w.; grand total, 30044.415 k.w. Re-inspection of consumers’ installations has been re-started, and it is hoped that before long this work will be brought up to date to satisfy the requirements of th e Public Works Department. No aonormal occurrences have taken place since the last report. Loads are somewhat in excess of the corresponding period of last year, as is to be expected.
