SHIPPING RIVALRY

(Rec. 9.35.) NEW YORK, August 10. Declaring an exchange of views between British and American shipping men would accomplish much towards eliminating dangerous post-war struggles for the control of the international shipping trade, the President of the United States Line, Mr. Basil Harris, invited British leaders to confer on martime problems. Mr. Harris said such a conference could at the earliest, be extended to other United Nations, but stressed that there was need for a mutual recognition of both British and American shipping needs and rights during the transition period.
