MAN CRUSHED BY TREE. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, July 3. James Alexander Ballantyne, agec. 52 years, was crushed to death when assisting with the felling of a tree at .Burke’s Pass, in the Mackenzie County, on Saturday. It was his last d.ay at work before leaving to live in Geraldine, where he had purchased a home. He is survived by his widow, a son in the Air Force overseas and two younger children. RAILWAY CROSSING ACCIDENT. F’.A. INVERCARGILL, July 3. Struck by a train at the Lindisfarne railway crossing this morning, William Scully, an employee of the reserves department of the Invercargill City Council, was killed instantly. He was driving a tractor with a plough attached. He was 46 years of age, and was married, with two children.
