PORTUGAL WARNED
OF BRITISH EMBARGO. LONDON. May 11. The “Daily Express” says: Portugal was given a plain hint to-night that unless she ceases the free flow of wolfram to Germany Britain will have to reconsider equally vital supplies she is sending to Portugal. Portugal has received thousands of tons of coal under the pact under which the Allies established bases in . the Azores. She also received thoui sands of tons of British wheat, which (she needed because of last year’s.bad I harvest. Sir Ronald Campbell, British Ambassador to Portugal in the course of negotiations which so far have been inconclusive, pointed out to President Salazar that the United Nations can no longer justify deliveries of coal and wheat to Governments helping the enemy. Britain’s coal agreement with Portugal comes up for revision in June. TURKEY’S CHROME. LONDON, May 11. The Berlin radio has given out the following official announcement: “In view of the Turkish Government’s stoppage of chrome deliveries to Germany contrary to the treaties existing between the two countries the German Ambassador (yon Papen) has handed to the Turkish Government a statement created by this Turkish breach of the agreement.”
