A meeting of about 50 delegates to the South Island conference of the Farmers’ Union Executives at Timaru who were also members of primary production councils or committees throughout the South Island, met yesterday. The following resolut on, to be referred back to all primaryproduction councils, was carried: "That this meeting, desirous of do ng its best to assist this country’s effort and produce necessary foodstuffs for Great Britain, feels we would be failing in our dutv if we did not point out that we fee l the appeal to sentiment is no longer a sufficient inducement to enable us to pc.<ure the necessary products. This we feel applies in particular to wheat-growers, dairy farmers, and meat producers,"
