WAIUTA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. W. Morgan, who has been seriously ill for the past two weeks, has been admitted to the Reef ton Hos pn al. Miss Doreen Willis, who underwent an operation at the Greymouth Hospital during the week-end, is making satisfactory progress. Mr. Fred Rose, who is an inmate of St. George’s Hospital, Christchurch, is making satisfactory progress. Residents heard with sincere regret of the tragic death of Mr Lloyd Mitchell, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Mitchell (Christchurch), and formerly well, known to residents of Waiuta. The young man who was 20 years of age, was accidentally killed at Cobbe River, but at the time of writing no details are available. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved. 1
Mr. and Mrs. T. Lewellyn left for' Wakefield on Wednesday morning last.
Mr. Tom Sullivan is spending a holiday in Christchurch LA.C. Trevor Holmes, R.N.Z.A.F.;, who lias been visiting his grandmother, Mrs. W. Larcombe, Senr., has returned to his depot.
Mr. and Mrs. J.- Willis were visitors to Greymouth for the week-end. Warrant Officer M. 'D. Jobling, N.Z.M.C., is spending a few days’ leave here
Messrs .1. Hill. D. McDonald, and M. Kemp, local residents, who are inmates .of the Reefton Hospital, are making good progress. L.A.C. Pat Cowie, R.N.Z.A.F., who’ has been spending leave has returned to his depot. Interest in the local body elections is keen locally. Labour looks like capturing the three seats in the Antonio’s Riding. Mrs. A. Hardie is a popular candidate for a seat on the Inangahua Hospital Board, while Mr. J. McGregor looks like being a “s.tter’ for the Harbour Board. A ll Labour supporters are urged to record their votes. The sport of trotting is in evidence at Waiuta. Mr. Bert Topper is hacking “Janice Mac” about, and this promising straight-out trotter wmeh started at Westport, although on the small side, will come right with age and racing experience. A likely looking sort is a six-year-old pacer, Western King—Marg Pointer, owned bv Messrs Bob McDonald and Bill Brown, which is to be registered as Western Pointer. T'he dam, Marg Pointer, was a winner on the West Coast circuit, several seasons back. Both the local horses will probably be seen in action at the Grevmouth * routing Club’s meeting In October. An important meeting of the Miners* Union will be held on Saturday at 10.30 a.m., when all members are requested to attend
