WARTIME CONTROLS
RELAXATION IN N.Z.
P.A. WELLINGTON, May 3. A Press Association cable from Canberra yesterday stated that a committee had been established in the Attorney-General’s Department to review -war-time regulations and recommend the removal of those no longer considered necessary for the efficient conduct of the war. When the question of action by the New Zealand Government was raised with him to-day. the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) stated that while the Government had not set up any committee for the purpose, the controllers generally knew that it was the Government’s policy to lift the controls as soon as an opportunity arose. Mr. Sullivan added that the ■attitude was not to wait until the end of the war, or until such time as it was felt that action en bloc should be taken. As thev went along controls were being eased or lifted, as and when it was. considered the circumstances permitted. Action along those lines had already been taken to some extent, and that course would be continued.
