ANGLO-U.S. TALKS

WASHINGTON". April 30. Mr Settinius arrived at Marrakesh, Morocco, to confer with Mr Harriman, Ambassador at Moscow, and Mr Murphy. American representative on, the Allied Council in Italy. Mr Stettinius is en route to Washington after conferences in London. Mr Harriman and Mr Murphy flew from Moscow a V Italy. The United Press points out that Mr Harriman will be able to give M. Stalin and M. Molotov a personal report on the British-American discussions in London.

The following joint communique on the visit of the United States Assist-and-Secretary of State (Mr Edward Stettinius) to Britain has been issued:-— “Mr Stettinius and a delegation composed of senior representatives of the United States Government have been visiting this country during the last three weeks on behalf of the United States Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) for informal exploratory exchanges of views. They have hau conversations with the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary, as well as with numerous other Ministers and officials. The discussions have covered important current questions and others that will become of great importance as hostilities draw to a close, and also longer range questions in connection with the post-war period. In all fields the discussions have revealed a very large measure of common ground. The talks have been of great assistance in the task of co-ordinating policies, and all those concerned and both Governments have expressed great satisfaction with the results. During the talks the Soviet and Chinese Governments have been kept informed.”
