BUS CAPSIZES
On Waiuta Road eighteen persons injured.
LOur Own Correspondent.) , WAIUTA, May 1. An accident which might easily | have had even worse consequences , occurred on the* Ikamatua —Waiuta Road, on Saturday evening when a service bus, containing eighteen passengers, overturned. The bus was passing another vehicle ; vhen the road gave way underneath it ana u turned completely over, shattering the body of the vehicle. , The bus was returning from tne train and the accident happened below “The Trough” in a very greasy I place as the bus was going down to Blackwater. Every passenger suffered some injury. . . , x Following is a list of the injured :■*— Miss Margaret Rodden, who was pinned down and took some time to extricate and was thought to be seriously injured when got out was suffering from a severely bruised shoulder and arm abrasions and shock. Mrs. J. fdcLenan suffered a sprained thumb, and shock. Mrs. Cockerill had her head bruised and suffered 1 shock. Miss Violet French, Ikamatua —Injured neck, bruises, and shock. Colleen Connors (aged 8 years) — Bruised fingers and shock. Mrs. H. Benson —Bruised shoulder, and shock.
Mr. Munn Kempt.—Badly cut finger; admitted tc Reef ton Hospital for amputation. Mr. Percy Darby—Two broken ribs and bruises Mr. J. McLenan—Dislocated shoulder and bruises. Mr. Tom Lewis—Cut finger. Mr. Roy Neilson—Bruised head and and shock. \ Mr. Frank Baird (who was recently discharged from St. George’s Hospital, Christchurch) —Bruises and shock. Mr. Dick Wilhan—Cut hand and bruises. . , Mr. Howard Benson —Strained shoulder and ankle. Mr. Heck Scott (driver) —Burnt hand and shock. All the injured received attention from Dr. Brockenshire, who was assisted by Mr. Sid Ramsden of St. John Ambulance. They were immediately on the scene. With willing helpers passengers were conveyed to their homes by cars, where further medical attention was given, Dr. Brockenshire remaining up throughout'the night and visiting the various cases in turn.
