MAY PETROL RATION. FA WELLINGTON, April '28.. The Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) announced that the War Cabinet has decided to continue the petrol ration for private motorists at hallcoupon rate for May. WELLINGTON WHARF DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, April 28. Work on the wharves which, excepting on two ships, ceased yesterday, as a protest against the alleged •use of unsafe gear, arising from the death of a watersider who Was crushed by a broken derrick, was resumed normally to-night. Work will cease to-morrow afternoon for the funeral of the victim. LODER’ CUP WELLINGTON, April 28. The Loder Cup for 1943 has been awarded to Mr James Speden, of Gore, who was nominated by the University of Otago. The -cup is awarded annually to the person or body of persons who have excelled all other nominees that year in furthering the wishes of the donor of the cup, “to encourage the protection and cultivation of the incomparable flora of the Dominion.” The donor of the cup was Mr Gerald W. Loder, afterwards Lord Wakehurst. , AUCKLAND CIVIC POSITIONS AUCKLAND, April 28. Twenty-four 'applications for the position of town clerk of Auckland, and 16 for that of city engineer, have been received by the Auckland City Council, according to a report made to the council at its meeting last night. After considerable discussion on procedure it was decided that both sets should be referred to the finance committee to select a suitable number of preferred names in each instance as a guide to the council in making the final choice. Five applications were received for the position of city valuer, registrar of electors, and returning officer. They were referred to the finance committee for a recommendation. NORTH AUCKLAND HOSPITALS. AUCKLAND, April 28. The Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer) to-day concluded a visit to six North Auckland hospital boards for the purpose of placing before them proposals for co-oordination of health hospital services in their area. He expressed himself highly gratified with the result of these preliminary discussions with the boards, the members of which had without exception approved the principle of unified administration of preventive and curative measures under one body for the whole area. The proposals will likely afford some relief to rating for hospitals’ purposes in this area. Details of the scheme which will still maintain an adequate measure of local responsibility for the management of institutions are to be forwarded to boards in due course, when full publicity will be given to the proposal.
