AIRMEN LAND IN SEA. WELLINGTON, March 15. An illustration of the efficiency of the safety devices installed in • aircraft flown by members of the R.N. Z.A.F. was given last night when three airmen reached safety after a forced landing in the sea near a North Island air station. When the machine, engaged on night-flying exercises, was reported overdue, an aerial search was immediately instituted, and before long the occupants of the missing aircraft were seen making towards the shore in a collapsible dinghy, which is part of the equipment carried. Within a short time the men had paddled ashore none the worse for their adventure. They were Flight Sergeant J. H. Pope, of Wellington, Sergeants E. J. Newton, of Ohinewai, and W. G. A. McCloud, of Kumara. HOME |FOR AGED AND FRIENDLESS. 5 ' AUCKLAND, March 15. An appeal for £5OOO is to be launched in Auckland to establish a home in which the aged and friendless can be cared for during their remaining years. The schame is planned by the Auckland Provincial Comforts Committee. The plight of some elderly people living in rooms is stated to be pitiful.
